Twilight’s Story
Chapter 6  

After Twilight had found her mother battling what appeared to be a wolf from IcePack, she had discovered that her mother was losing the fight.  Luna suddenly charged at the wolf and bit down onto it’s back, holding him in her jaws.  The wolf was thrown into a nearby tree.  It quickly recovered and ran away into the trees.  

Twilight looked over to her mother, who looked at her.  She lost her footing and slipped into the raging river behind her.  “No!”  Yelled Twilight as she saw her mother being carried away by the strong currents.  Twilight knew she had no choice.  She jumped into the river after her mother.  She felt the ice cold water engulf her.  She then swam up to the surface.  Twilight caught a glimpse of her mother a few feet ahead of her.  She swam as fast as she could in the ice cold water.  When she finally caught up to Luna, Twilight pulled Luna up onto her back.  She frantically looked for a branch or something she could grab onto but she couldn’t find anything.  

Suddenly, the roar of the river grew louder.  “Oh no,” said Twilight.  She desperately scrapped her claws on the river floor.  It was no use.  The river floor was too rocky and most of the rocks were slippery with Algy.  The sound of rushing water grew louder and louder.  The two wolves were about to go over a waterfall.  

Water suddenly came over Twilight’s head as she choked for air.  She could feel the currents pull her and her mother over the falls.  Then, everything went black for Twilight.  

When Twilight came to her senses again, she could feel the mist of the waterfall fall onto her face.  She stood up with her legs wobbling.  Twilight looked around frantically for her mother.  “Mother?  Mom?  Please, answer me!  Where are you?!”  

Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of a motionless figure.  Twilight rushed to the damp figure which was her mother.  “Mother,” she whispered.  Luna had a horrible gash on her chest and side which were bleeding badly.  “Mother, please hang in there.  You’ll be alright,” said Twilight.  

Luna barely opened her eyes.  She lifted her head up and said, “T-Twilight.  I’m sorry that I can’t be there for when you grow into the strongest leader of any of the wolf packs.  I love you so much my daughter and I’ll watch you from the stars and I’ll always be with you  even when you seem you have lost your way.”  

Suddenly, Twilight heard a splash.  She turned her head around to she her father Shadow pad slowly over to them.  He crouched down next to his mate.  Luna licked Shadow’s nose and said, “Shadow, I love you so much dear.  I may have never of mentioned this to you before, but I’ve always been so proud of you.  We knew each other ever since we’ve been pups.  I watched you grow into the strong leader you are now.”  

Shadow’s eyes started to tear up when he replied, “Please Luna, don’t go.”  

“I must.  I’ll be hunting with the Heavens tonight,” said Luna.

Tears were now flowing from Twilight’s eyes.  She berried her head in her mother’s soft fur.  “Please!  Please don’t leave me Mother!  I’ll be so lost without you.”  

With the last of her strength, Luna said quietly, “I love you both so much.”  Then, she was gone.  It was as if everything in the forest was still and quiet.  Shadow sat motionless for a few moments just starring at his mate.  Then, he lifted his head up and let out a long, mournful howl.  Twilight, still choking on tears, lifted her head up and joined her father’s howl.

After they finished, Shadow berried Luna in a nice spot close to the waterfall.  Then, Shadow and Twilight padded back to the camp together without speaking to each other.  When they got back, Scar approached them.  “Hey!  What happened by the river?”  Asked Scar before noticing mournfulness in Shadow’s eyes.  

Shadow padded back into his den with Twilight and they fell asleep side by side.  

A few days later, the first snow of winter came.  Shadow was out with some patrols while Twilight stayed in the den and refused to come out.  Firestorm walked over to the den and said, “Twilight?  Will you please come out of your den?”  

Twilight ignored him and continued to mope.  The only things she had left of her mother were memories and the ring Luna gave to Twilight a few weeks ago.  She fell asleep soon after,  wishing her mother was there with her comforting her.
