Twilight’s Story
Chapter 5

Everyone was quiet and still.  The pack members anxiously awaited Firestorm’s answer.  Would he choose to stay with ShadowPack or would he choose to leave and never be allowed to enter the territory?  Shadow paced left and right in front of Firestorm.  It had been 10 minutes since Shadow had asked Firestorm the question.  Firestorm still looked down at the ground.  Twilight saw a shadow in his eyes.  She could tell he was thinking hard about what his decision would be.  Suddenly, they all heard a crack of thunder in the distance.  “This must be the last storm for this year”, thought Twilight as rain drops hit her nose.  

Suddenly, Firestorm slowly lifted his head up and said, “I have made a decision.”

Shadow and Luna both faced him ready for his answer.  

Firestorm looked at all of them and answered, “I have decided that I will stay with you, ShadowPack.  I will stay if it ok with the leader.”  

He looked at Shadow, who had a surprised look on his face.  He thought about the answer for 2 minutes.  Then, he gave a little nod to Firestorm.  He walked over to him and said, “Then, welcome Firestorm, to ShadowPack.  I am also sorry for yelling at you earlier.  I had know idea your life had been so bad.  I’m sorry.”  Then, Shadow walked away into his den.  Luna gave a happy look towards their new member, then raced away after her mate.  Twilight was thrilled with Firestorm’s decision.  

Suddenly, Twilight’s best friend, Shadow padded over to her.  “Hey Twilight.  It’s cool we finally got a new member.”  

“Yeah, I know,” replied Twilight.  She remembered that when Shadow was little, her parents had been killed.  No one knows how they died but Shadow left for a few weeks because she was so devastated.  Then, Shadow found a locket by the river one day.  She kept it because it reminded her of her mother.  She was 8 months old, two months older than Twilight.   

“Well, see ya later Twilight,” said Shadow as she padded off.  

Twilight went into the den and found her parents sleeping so, she scooted closer to them, and fell asleep.  In the morning, the patrols reported to Shadow, Twilight’s father, that the river was over flooded and the currents were moving faster than normal.  Shadow warned all the pack members to be careful of the currents in the river when they get a drink.  

Later that rainy day, Luna walked over to Shadow and said, “Dear, I’ll be right back.  I’m just going to get a drink of water from the river.”  

“Alright Luna, just please be careful,” replied Shadow.  Then, Luna walked off into the woods.  Then, Shadow padded over to Scar and said, “Scar, I’d like you to take Firestorm on a patrol and show him our territory.  You can take any other wolves with you too.”  

“Yes Shadow,” replied Scar then padded away to find Firestorm.  When he finally found him, he said, “Hey, Firestorm!  I’m going to take you on a patrol so I can show you around our territory.”  

“Ok, sounds cool,” replied Firestorm.  

“K, I’ll be right back.  I’ll go see if anyone else wants to go,” said Scar as he padded off.  He first went to see if Shadow wanted to go.  

“Sure, sounds fun,” she said and followed Scar.  

Scar, Shadow, and Firestorm were headed for the forest when Twilight came up behind them and asked, “Where are you 3 going now?”

“Oh, we’re going out on patrol.  Wanna join us?”  Asked Scar.  

Twilight hesitated for a few moments and then said, “Sure.  Let’s go.”  

After an hour of exploring the territory, Firestorm asked, “How big is our territory anyway?”  

“It’s pretty big.  ShadowPack territory takes up the whole forest.  Each of the packs have their own large territory.  Like IcePack, they have the snowy mountains.  FirePack, they have the volcanic regions.”  Explained Scar.  

“Oh.  Ok.  So, why are you called ShadowPack then?”  Asked Firestorm.

“It’s.......a.....hard to explain.  We’ll tell you later, Firestorm.”  Said Scar.   

Suddenly, Twilight heard some yelps and growls.  It was coming by the river.  “You three, stay here.  I’ll go see what it is.”  Said Twilight as she padded towards the noises.  She slowly crept towards the river bank and saw a familiar wolf fighting off a white wolf is black hair and a blue tail.  Twilight’s eyes widened with horror as she recognized the wolf being attacked.  Just like in her dream a few days ago, she saw what she feared most.  Her mother, Luna was being attacked and by the looks of the blood on her side and back, she was losing.
